My B+ Attempts at Being All That

I'm funny. I promise. If you don't believe me, ask me; I'll set you straight.

Be One With the Taffy Pull; give it a rest

on September 15, 2014

I recently watched a show on taffy and how it’s made.  It was fascinating watching the taffy get stretched and pulled, doubled over, stretched and pulled, and on and on.

I thought about how, as women, we can often times feel like the taffy.  Our boss wants something impossible done with an even more impossible deadline.  Our car needs new tires.  Our bathrooms are filthy.  Our kids need something NOW.  Our best friend has hit crisis mode and needs a shoulder to cry on.  We need the next best recipe for the pot luck.

Psalm 110:107 – Everything’s falling apart on me, God; put me together again with your Word.

~ With each tug, pull and doubling over, the taffy gets stretched even thinner and thinner. ~

When we decide to tackle every possible scenario under the sun each day, we become stretched thinner and thinner.  We come close to breaking, to tearing, to falling apart. We move further from God because we are scrambling so much to get ready while the power just went out, to fix the flat tire on the way to work, to realize that presentation was today. We’re just too busy functioning to give God even a moment.

Psalm 46:10 – Be still and know that I am God.

~ Then, something amazing happened: the taffy was still.  It rested. ~

When was the last time you rested? I mean, actually rested and not just flopped down in bed out of sheer exhaustion? Not the last time you returned emails while watching your favorite show? Not the last time you actually got to eat dinner sitting down? No, I mean actually rested. Gave God a chance to speak to your heart. Listened.

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

~ And the taffy that once was a stretched-out, gooey mess was formed into something wonderful.  The taffy became exactly what it was meant to be when it was still. ~

Be the Taffy

Ladies, we are the taffy.  We are pulled, stretched, doubled over until it seems like we will simply fall apart.  But if we rest in God – truly rest in God and not just check Him off our to-do list because we got through our devotional for the day – He will make sure we become exactly who He wants us to be and not a sticky, gooey mess.  So, be the taffy. But most importantly, remember to rest in order to become that sweet treat that God intends for you to be.

If I am taffy, I want to be banana. It’s a favorite! 🙂
